Early wheat planting

Varietal selection of wheat seeds

Limousin

Our client wishes to conduct a wheat breeding program to identify the highest-performing and most resistant plants. To do so, the company will use two BEECAM cameras: one positioned for a vertical view and the other for an aerial view, allowing for comprehensive observation of plant development. The study will focus on two types of plants: a control plot without biocide treatment and a plot treated with biocide. This approach allows for a precise comparison of the growth, health, and resistance of the varieties under study, thereby guiding the selection process toward the best candidates for future crops.

Wheat variety selection program supported by phenotypic imaging

Background and research question: identifying varieties that perform better and are more resistant to health and environmental pressures

Given the growing challenges of yield, sustainability, and reducing the use of plant protection products, identifying wheat varieties that are both high-yielding and naturally resistant is a major challenge. Traditional evaluation methods, which are often time-consuming and rely on sporadic observations, limit the accuracy and speed of selection. The project therefore aims to establish precise, continuous, and multi-angle phenotypic monitoring using BEECAM imaging, in order to objectively compare control and treated plants and optimize the selection of the most robust genotypes for future crops.

The result

11

Identification of the highest-performing varieties

Comparing growth parameters (vigor, height, biomass, uniformity) allows for the objective selection of genotypes with the highest potential yields.

Picto 1

Assessment of resistance to biotic stress

Comparing control plants with treated plants highlights their natural tolerance or susceptibility to diseases and pests, making it easier to select more resistant varieties.

12

Comprehensive, non-destructive phenotypic monitoring

The use of BEECAM cameras in vertical and aerial views provides continuous, detailed, and multi-angle monitoring of plant growth, improving the quality and reliability of the data collected.

13

Optimizing hiring decisions and saving time

Objective measurements derived from imaging help speed up the screening of promising candidates, reduce unnecessary testing, and guide future cultivation strategies more effectively.
